The first lesson of calculus as a game — drag a vase-painting runner down a number line where every jump covers half of what's left, and discover the only way he ever arrives is t → ∞.
Zeno of Elea’s Dichotomy paradox, playable: a runner has one kilometer to go, but every jump covers exactly half of what’s left — ½, then ¼, then ⅛ — so he lands forever short of the 1. The track is the number line, the drag is the run, and the expression 1/2ᵗ is computed live at every step, with the current t sitting in a little gold square.
The numbers are the story. Keep stepping and what’s left shrinks past a fingernail, a grain of sand, the width of a hair, a bacterium, a virus, a few atoms — real distances all the way down to 1/2⁵², where the computer’s own floating point can no longer tell the gap from zero. And still: tiny, NOT 0. A toggle flips the run from steps (t hops through ℕ) to smooth (x glides through ℝ) — grab Zeno and feel the difference with your thumb. The only way he ever arrives is the rocket button, t → ∞, which starts quiet and begs harder the longer you run — and lands the payoff typeset like real mathematics: lim of 1/2ᵗ as t → ∞ equals 0. That’s a limit. That’s calculus.
Below the race, a second paradox closes the page. A ball rolls from a red field toward a black one and is stopped by the white line between them — and then the camera dives into that line in one unbroken zoom, no cut and no fade, to reveal it was never a line at all. It has width. It is a region, and a fresh black line now stands at its edge. White, black, white, black, forever: the boundary between any two things is a third thing, which needs its own boundary. The ball never moves and never changes size while the world magnifies around it, and a Shepard tone climbs with every dive — a note that rises endlessly and arrives nowhere, like the zoom itself.
The world is an ancient Greek vase come to life: the runner, his jump, and his victory pose were AI-generated in black-figure style, then sliced into animation frames by connected-component analysis so his run cycle is real painted art, not CSS. Built in the same family as Drum Teacher and the vector-space lesson — one self-contained page, nearly wordless, made to be handed to a stranger on a phone.
